When performing academic research there are lots of electrodes available from disk electrode, rotating disk/ring disk electrodes, screen printed electrodes, MEMS/Semiconductor fabricated electrodes, PCB fabricated, ablated/ vapour deposited electrodes. The problem with electrodes that are fabricated or manufactured for research is that they are intended for research. In many electro-analytical experiments the ultimate goal and argument is that the research is being carried out in order to solve a problem outside of the lab.
At ZP when we manufacture electrodes and sell them to the research community, but we have designed the electrode with the single intention that the science being done in the lab will one day be translated into real products.
